Biography
Spanky's Heroes were childhood friends from Dundee, who began playing music together in their early teens. They eventually grew tired of covering Green Day and Rage Against The Machine songs, and began to write and perform their own music.
In 2004, they recorded a live demo, 'Back to the Furniture', which was described in an IS Magazine review as "thoroughly impressive". The reviewer called the band's music "very infectious and honest ... not just some ordinary run of the mill garage rock band".
As well as recording music, Spanky's Heroes have continued to entertain audiences with their energetic live performances. A 2007 Daily Record live review praised their "big and beefy sound", and concluded that they "might be onto a winner".
The band recorded their first full length album, 'Out of the Depths', in 2007. The album received very positive reviews, including a 9/10 star rating from Crossrhythms, who described the music as great slab of the best kind of alternative rock", as well as noting that "a certain intelligent and careful crafting is evident".
Since recording 'Out of the Depths', the band have continued to produce new songs, and have really developed their sound. Three of these songs can be found on their 2009 EP 'Remember the Fire'.
The band have played gigs throughout Scotland, and in 2008 had the privilege of playing to an audience of several hundred people at the Frenzy Festival. In 2009, they won the Marrow Dundee Battle of the Bands. The band continue to perform live, and look forward to taking their music further afield in the near future.
